The Cherrys Travel: San Francisco

March 13, 2015
“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” — Miriam Beard

Every adventure Jeremy and I experience is more exhilarating and life-giving than the one prior. The things I learn about the world, our culture and ourselves continues to blow my mind. Our first trip to the west coast was no exception.

So many people told us many wonderful things about this beautiful city, but we truly had no idea what to expect. We were a bit exhausted our first day and couldn’t form many opinions on what we’d seen, but by the end of our trip, we had fallen in love with this beautiful city. It was a city of such different people, professions, cultures, styles, you name it. And really, a breath of fresh air.

San Francisco will always have a sweet part of me, because I feel like I learned so much in just a few short days. We originally planned our trip, as I won a seat to the Musea Gathering (which was such an experience in itself). We figured we may as well take a few days and explore if I was headed there anyways!

On our first day, we explored Potrero Hill where we were staying and at a quaint French-inspired spot that only had bar-seating, which was such a fun experience in itself. Dogpatch was a short walk, so we enjoyed the dose of sunshine after fleeing the ice storm in Nashville. We then headed to Haight-Ashbury, as Jeremy had always wanted to go to Amoeba Music and he was like a kid in a candy shop. We headed to Valencia street that evening for some awesome tacos and happy hour before crashing for the evening (we had been up for over 15 hours!).

Our second day was so packed it’s funny to recount, because I’m not really sure how we made it all happen. Our itinerary included: Tartine Bakery ( thank you, Brad + Jen!!), Alamo Square/Painted Ladies, San Francisco City Hall, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghiradelli,  Land’s End + Sutro Baths, Presidio and then Indian street food for dinner. We topped it all off with Dandelion homemade hot chocolate with house marshmallows and sea salt chocolate chip cookie stuffed with Nutella. (Can you tell what my favorite part of any meal is?!)

That Saturday, we ventured to a breakfast spot our Airbnb host recommended (Plow) and it was hands-down the best breakfast I’ve ever head. And the atmosphere was exactly what I imagine our kitchen will be one day. Simple, sweet and warm! We then headed to Golden Gate Park and walked at least 2 -3 miles exploring and made it to the beach to soak up the salty air. Tacos made our lunch, and then we met up with Rebecca + Joseph, as I’ll be photographing their wedding this summer–so excited to celebrate them and get another chance to visit the area!
