Cherry Blossom season is quite popular, and for good reason! If you’re in the DC area, it’s absolutely beautiful, but can be quite the logistical challenge to make cherry blossom photos happen!
Here in Charlottesville, Chiles Peach Orchard is one of the orchards known for their gorgeous blossoming trees in the spring. They usually bloom at the end of March, but it’s all a timing and waiting game. Thankfully, this sweet family was willing to play the game and plan things tentatively, knowing plans could change any minute….and they did! We planned a session for one week, but then the blossoms peaked and we pivoted to make the session happen the very next day. And my goodness, I’m so grateful we did.
We lucked out with 70 degree weather (in March!!) with gorgeous golden light and beautifully pink blossoms to celebrate this baby girl’s 6 month milestone. We had such an amazing time at Chiles Peach Orchard and I just couldn’t wait to share some highlights from our time together.
Want to plan your spring peach blossom session at Chiles? Or another orchard? Here are my top tips for planning your spring peach blossom family photos in Charlottesville:
It sounds wild to think about it that early, but the blossoms can bloom as early as mid-March, so you won’t want to wait to reach out to your photographer when they are already in bloom, as that will be too late. The blossoms only last about a week, so making sure you have your favorite photographer secured early and on board with your plan is your best bet!
Though morning sessions can be lovely, it can be cold and damp on early spring mornings. Planning for the afternoon means warmer weather and hopefully drier conditions. (If you have older kids, make sure to think through their school pickup time, etc)
For this session, we made a last-minute pivot to move the session a week early due to the beautiful weather (hello 70 degrees and sunshine!) and the blossoms being at peak a little early. This involved communication with the property contact, my client and a hair stylist for my client…we made it happen and it was a joy! So, have your outfits picked out a couple weeks ahead of time and be ready to pivot if needed!
I take a limited number of sessions each month (plus, I’m a bit of a planner and always account for possible weather and sick days!) I’d love to set up a time to chat with you, hear your vision and answer any questions!
