Best Charlottesville Date Nights & Family-Friendly Eats After Your Photo Session

Family

While I wouldn’t call myself a true “foodie,” I do love a great meal—especially one I didn’t have to cook. I’m always on the lookout for local spots to support, and I’ll take a cozy neighborhood restaurant over a big chain any day. Charlottesville has no shortage of amazing options, and I’ve built a growing list of tried-and-true favorites (along with a few I can’t wait to try!).

Whether you’re new in town or a long-time local looking for fresh ideas, here’s a little roundup of our favorite date night restaurants and family-friendly spots to enjoy after a photo session—because celebrating with good food is always a good idea.

Date Night Favorites

  • Tavola
This is our go-to date night spot. The atmosphere, the food, you just can’t top this charming spot. The bucatini all’amatriciana, linguine alla carbonara and capellini frutti di mare “fra diavolo” are our go-tos!

  • Belle
Most people know Belle for its dreamy breakfast and brunch, but it’s quickly becoming a favorite for dinner too. Their burger is next-level, and the warm, inviting vibe makes it perfect for a cozy evening out.

  • Marigold
This one is still on my list to try, but I’ve only heard glowing reviews. It’s tucked away at Keswick Hall and would make for a beautiful celebratory or anniversary dinner.

  • Smyrna
Another spot I’m dying to try. Focused on small plates and mediterranean fare, it’s risen to the top of locals’ lists quickly!

  • Oakhart Social
A downtown gem with a neighborhood feel and a well-rounded menu—from wood-fired pizza to steak.

  • Black Cow
If you’re sneaking in an early date night (hello, babysitter curfew!), their steak frites happy hour is a win. The industrial-chic space and downtown location make it feel special, even for a quick dinner.

  • Bonus: If you’re looking for a day date, the sliders at Pippin Hill along with seasonal favorites never dissappoint!

Family-Friendly Spots to Enjoy After Your Photo Session

  • Selvedge Brewing
Selvedge is one of our new favorites! When I’m craving a great burger, this is where we’re headed. It’s a wide open family-friendly space an their burger and fries are something to savor.

  • Bodo’s Bagels
Having a morning session? Or want to pick up a quick picnic dinner to eat right away? Bodo’s is a Charlottesville classic for good reason.

  • Brazos
Whether you’re near downtown and want to head to the original location at IX Art Park or head to the newer location in Barracks, tacos always hit the spot.

  • Hogwaller Brewing
If you’re closer to downtown and want to stroll at the river after, Hogwaller also has an amazing burger and a great kids deal on Tuesdays. Plus, you can head over to Sugar Bear for a sweet treat after!

  • Riverside Lunch
Riverside doesn’t need any introducing. Simple, affordable, and no fuss. Riverside is a Charlottesville staple, and always a hit with families.

  • Roots Natural Kitchen
I crave a good bowl or salad and Roots has flavors to match whatever mood you’re in. Plus, kids eat free with each adult bowl purchased.

  • Lampo 2 Go
Amazing pizza at a nice & easy location. Picnic with a pizza? Yes, please! Plus, you can order online ahead of time to be ready after your session.

  • Guajiros Miami Eatery
This spot is best if you have a morning session since brunch is served until 3pm, but If you haven’t been here, please add it to your list. It offers unique Cuban-inspired dishes that are hearty and full of flavor.

  • Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie
Another Charlottesville area classic. If you’re in the Crozet or North Garden area after your session, head over for a spot that is sure to please everyone!

  • Smoked
Sometimes BBQ is exactly what hits the spot. With a 29N and Crozet location, it’s a great casual spot.

  • El Tizon
This is one of our family’s most frequented spots. The family meal is an affordable and generous way to feed everyone, and our kids are just as excited about it as we are. Their soup in colder months is one of my personal comfort favorites.

Whether you’re planning a date night or a fun meal after your family photo session, I hope this list helps you discover a new favorite. And if you’ve got a spot I need to try—send it my way. I’m always adding to the list!
