The forecast was calling for rain the day before the wedding, and unfortunately, not the kind of “here and there” or light rain. Usually, a few days out, you can count on it changing, but the day before….not so much. It was raining for Haley & Patrick’s engagement session (also pouring that day), so I knew if they were up for it then, they were the couple who could handle the rain if it came.
I woke up that morning, and the clouds were rolling in, but I just had the feeling that it wasn’t going to rain. By mid-morning, the clouds were separating a little bit and the air was full of anxious hope that the rain would stay away.
Haley and Patrick are most likely the most laid-back couple you’ll ever meet, they simply were excited to become husband and wife and being together was their favorite place to be.
The clouds had given way, and Haley was ready ahead of time, so we went outside for some bridal portraits and their first look. The clouds came back in, but for the most perfect cloud coverage as they saw each other for the first time. Their faces both lit up when they saw each other, and you couldn’t help be be joyful in seeing what they have together. As they exchanged letters, the winds began to pick up a little and I heard something rustling in the leaves….and the rain was coming. Within 60 seconds, the biggest downpour came flooding through the skies, and thankfully we made it to the beautiful front porch for some photos while the storm passed through.
And thankfully, that was the only bit of rain we saw all day. A bright blue sky and gorgeous gardens were the backdrop for their ceremony, and the most perfect light breeze passed through a few times throughout. Their reception followed without a worry of rain which made for a lovely evening dinner, and of course, a bit of dancing.
Congratulations, you two! It was a joy to celebrate you two and document your first day of marriage!
