What to Wear: Fall Outfit Inspiration for Engagement & Family Photos

As we all very well know, fall is the most popular time of year for portraits. Rightly so! The golden light and colors of Autumn simply stun year after year, especially here in the mountains of Virginia. My calendar always fills up quickly with family sessions and engagement sessions and since the outfit inspiration I did this summer with Lisa of Swell Styling was so popular, I knew I had to team up with her again to bring some inspiration for the fall!

I adore what she designed and I know you all will too! The tones she chose layer so beautifully with the colors we’ll be seeing so very soon and I know you’ll be inspired for your very own session!

“For a fall engagement shoot, I recommend a romantic and flattering dress for the bride.  For the groom, chinos and dress boots with a button down will look classic.  Pull colors from your dress to choose the guy’s pieces.  They don’t have to match, but try to complement.”

For Mom:
“Pair your most flattering denim with an oh-so-soft sweater in a soft hue that you love.  Add some leather boots, a bandana scarf, and maybe a hat!  You’ll look the part for fall but still get pictures that you can display year round in your home!”

For Daughter(s):
“Pick a soft sweater and corduroy skirt ensemble that blends all of the colors in the family’s look.  All she needs are some braids or a top knot and her favorite boots to finish the look!”
