It all started with a letter. A letter my mother found from my late uncle that he had sent to his family while away in Germany serving as special intelligence for the army. He was pretty much a real-life James Bond…and I’m not exaggerating. My uncle was brilliant. Well, she found the letter a year after he had passed and we were able to read the words he wrote to the family he dearly loved and hold the exact paper he held after all of these years. What an incredible heirloom and newfound connection.
From then, I knew what my brand would be and who I would be as a photographer. My new mission with Amy Nicole Photography is to provide a tangible story for all of my clients. Photographs are meant to be printed and held. They’re beautiful on a screen, but they are real in your hands. As a photojournalist, I approach your day as a story—your love story. A story that should be shared and remembered. Because of this, I chose to include tangible photographs or album with each collection because I want my couples to have heirlooms— whether it be true hand-held prints or photographs in a beautiful leather-bound album.
Sure, I will still be offering digital negatives because it certainly is something special. But even more special are those photographs you will hold in your hands. I want my clients to treasure them, hold them, share them. And when the day comes that photographs of little ones have replaced the wedding photos, those same children will treasure the photographs from your wedding. When the DVD is long gone and the flash drive no longer fits modern computers, you’ll have tangible memories to share with your children and your grandchildren. I want my clients’ children, family and grandchildren to hold and relive their story. I truly don’t believe there is another feeling as great as holding real photographs and getting a glimpse into a life, a love and a story.
Another plus? You don’t have to worry about a thing after your wedding day. Instead of planning to print your photos from your DVD, and having to set aside time to go through hundreds of photographs, you already have them. You get to sit back, relax and relive your first day as husband and wife.
So there’s my story. That’s what I’m about, what I believe in and who I am. I’m excited to start this new adventure, and I look forward to you all joining in with me. Here’s to heirlooms, stories and photographs. Here’s to the simple + real things in life. Here’s to simple life + love.
Also, be sure to not forget about the giveaway in honor of the new site launch—the lovely print you see below! It’s a print created by one of my favorite local artists, Chelsea Petaja of Oh My Deer.
