When talking with new mothers, one of the very first questions I get is: When do we schedule our newborn session? I mean, babies make their own schedules and entrances into this world so that question has so many layers! So, I wanted to share my tips and suggestions today for scheduling your lifestyle newborn session, as the answer may be different for families looking for a more posed newborn session.
1. When do I need to book my session with you?
My best advice here is for you to reach out by the beginning of your third trimester. For me, I’m able to give you a better outlook on availability and I can get your due date on the calendar! Plus, it’s one less thing you have to worry about as the due date approaches.
2. When should the session take place after our baby is born?
I always suggest scheduling your newborn session within 2-3 weeks of your child being born. They’re still super sleepy, most likely haven’t had any baby acne and haven’t started to change too much. Now that I have a little one of my own, it’s truly mind-blowing to see how quickly newborns change!
3. Our baby is here! How do we officially secure the time and date?
When you initially reserve your session with me, I put your due date on the calendar and reach out a week or two before your due date to check in on your progress, etc. From there, I just have you contact me once the baby is here and we talk through potential dates! Most sessions take place on weekdays late morning or mid-day when the light is best and before baby gets too tired.
4. Our session is scheduled, now what?
Now that your session is scheduled, here are a few of my favorite tips for preparing for your newborn session!
