Fall is a gorgeous time of year in Charlottesville and Richmond, so it’s no surprise that it’s a crazy busy time of year for family photographers like myself!
Though I wholeheartedly believe that it doesn’t take an “epic” location to create amazing photos together, a gorgeous location is always a nice perk. Each year, I have the joy of working at different locations from clients’ homes, to old favorite locations and each year, a new location. I love seeing how each photo session location I’ve photographed at changes through the seasons.
If we work together, I’ve created an amazing location library resource for you so you can see a number of my favorite locations along with all the notes and things to consider with each session. (There are a lot of details in picking a location and I’ve done all the leg work for you!) But, if you’re planning your Charlottesville or Richmond family photo session, and want a head start on thinking through locations, here are my five favorite locations in the fall:
This might be my very favorite location in the fall. The tree-lined driveway is absolutely stunning in the autumn light and it’s my favorite location for morning sessions. It opens at 9:30 and the light is perfectly golden. So, if weeknights or evenings are too crazy for your family, this is your spot!
The lawn and gardens in the fall are just hard to top, am I right? It’s a free location, and amazing in the morning and evening. We just need to double check the football schedule to avoid chaotic parking! (This spot is best on weekdays)
Oh, The Market at Grelen. It’s a bit out of town depending on where you live in the area, but it’s an all-time favorite location. There are gorgeous gardens, an open field with a stunning mountain view and beautiful light…what more could you ask for! (The Market at Grelen is a very popular wedding spot, so this is best on weeknights!) Plus, it’s just as beautiful in early fall as the end of the season as fall color changes!
Historic Tuckahoe is one of those locations that shines in all seasons. It features gardens, beautiful hedge pathways, an open field, lovely autumn foliage and gorgeous light!
Agecroft Hall is one of those hidden gems in Richmond. I personally didn’t photograph here until recently, and it’s a new favorite! It has beautiful fields with a river overlook, and multiple gardens that feel like they are from a storybook. It offers such variety in your final gallery!
These locations are some of my favorites for different reasons (like variety, proximity, light, etc), but there are lots of local parks in Charlottesville & Richmond that offer their own color, vibrance and fun! I’ll help coach you through all the little details like working around venue times, nap times, bed times and all the details in between!
